Miscellaneous Mail before Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

by Michael Dorausch, DC
The mail never stops. There will likely be a large pile of it in the office on Monday. Received one of those really big boarding pass looking postcards from Southwest Airlines, you probably received one as well. I guess flying Southwest nearly every month for the past six years isn’t worth a [...]

Thanksgiving Road Conditions and Flight Delays

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

by Michael Dorausch, DC

I’m breaking from our traditional news today to cover some topics that are relevant to the Thanksgiving holiday activities going on the next few days in the United States. My office is located very close to LAX airport in Southern California and we’ve experienced a significant increase in travel related traffic.

If you’re on the road this holiday weekend and you are looking to keep up on road conditions using your mobile phone, I recommend you download a mobile version of Google maps. If you’re online you can use tools that typically appear at the top of search results. For Yahoo pages searches such as traffic los angeles or traffic New York City should get you traffic status.

If you’re in New York (hi mom) you may want to have information about the New York City Macy’s Parade, also known as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. This is the official parade link. The parade starts at 9 a.m. Eastern time in New York City. My dad used to take my sister and I to the parade when we lived in Queens. I remember it being very cold and I was needing lots of hot chocolate. Rain is in the forecast for Thursday in New York City so keep an eye on the local weather (weather New York City).

Speaking of weather I understand it’s snowing in the state of Iowa so if you are traveling there you may want to check local Iowa weather and be prepared for slippery Iowa road conditions.

Adam Sandler Thanksgiving song For those of you seeking funny Thanksgiving messages or even Thanksgiving jokes, don’t miss out on the Adam Sandler Thanksgiving song “love to eat turkey” which is available on ifilm.com. Sandler is hysterical, definitely one of my favorite comedians!

Many airports in the United States are expected to be crowded during the next three days so you may want to check out information regarding airport delays and related flight delays. The Federal Aviation Administration has a page with flight delay information from their air traffic control system command center. Go to the FAA page here. On Google, you can enter the name of an airport or a flight number to get relevant information or links at the top of the search results. As an example you could track the status of Southwest Airlines flight 1232 by typing in sw1232 at a Google search prompt.

Of course by Thursday night people are going to be searching for black friday coupons and the best black friday deals. The traditional way was to scan through newspaper inserts but I did some searching to find some great online resources. Here are three resources for Black Friday deals.

I suspect most chiropractic offices in the United States were as busy today as they were last year. If you’re planning on visiting your local chiropractor on Friday or Saturday it’s best advised that you call ahead as many offices in the United States will be closed for the holidays. We like shopping too!

Have a healthy and safe Thanksgiving everybody!

by Michael Dorausch, DC
I received another fax today from Karl Parker Seminars regarding a chiropractic event in Las Vegas on January 10-13, 2008. I checked the events pages and didn’t notice any information added by the folks putting on this event. Would be a great idea to they got their information listed. I believe I [...]

Seminars Not Just for Chiropractors

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

by Michael Dorausch, DC

Seminars for healthcare professionals typically focus on topics that are required for gaining continuing education credits in the state an individual is practicing in. For example, the state of California has a 12 hours per year requirement on continuing education for doctors of chiropractic that want to maintain active license status. While many of these 12 hour educational programs are typically taught over weekends in hotels, the chiropractic profession hosts a number of large events (some that also include education credits) that cater towards chiropractors and their families, other health-care professionals, and even the general public.

Thousands of people browse and search through listings for chiropractic seminars on the Planet Chiropractic website. While many listed events are geared towards relicensure for chiropractors, other health-care professionals and members of the public have made inquiries as to which events we’d be most likely to recommend for attendance. We’re entering the holiday season in 2007 and few have completed uploading their 2008 list of event dates and locations, but here are a few I’m aware of that cater to families and the general public.

New Beginnings for a New Future Weekend January 2008
New Beginnings is organized by a group of philosophically minded chiropractors based out of the New Jersey area. Events typically run from Thursday through Sunday and involve a number of chiropractic and non-chiropractor speakers. The core of the event is centered on the philosophy of chiropractic and living a chiropractic lifestyle. In years past, I’ve met dozens of people attending new beginnings that were not chiropractors, all who had reported the seminars were life-changing an exceptionally motivational. The events are held three times a year and they take place at the Sheraton Eatontown Hotel & Conference Center which is located in Eatontown New Jersey. If you’re flying in from out of state your best bet is getting a flight to Newark Airport and renting a car. That’s worked well for me in the past.

Speakers you can expect to see presenting at New Beginnings include chiropractors such as Jim Dubel, Jay Handt, Robert Tarantino, and Sharon Gorman.

2008 Las Vegas Parker Seminar
Parker Chiropractic Seminars hosts an event each year in Las Vegas. This is one of the longest running chiropractic seminar series still in existence. There are dozens of speakers from the field of chiropractic discussing topics related to technique, business, philosophy, motivation, nutrition, and developing relationships. Not only is the Las Vegas seminar a great event for chiropractors, it’s a spectacular conference to bring staff and family to. For individuals working in other health-care fields, or those seeking to build business relationships inside the industry of chiropractic, this would be an event to be on the top of your agenda. The 2008 event will be held at the Las Vegas Hilton. There are also Parker conferences in MontrĂ©al, Italy, and Arlington, Texas, but the Las Vegas event is the biggest of the year. It’s possibly the most attended chiropractic conference in existence.

Speakers at the Parker seminars include chiropractor such as James Sigafoose, John DeMartini, Fabrizio Mancini, Patrick Gentempo Jr., and Charles Ward.

Other seminars to consider for the 2008 season include Dynamic Essentials (which is typically hosted in Atlanta, Georgia) and the ICA Fitness Symposium, which is an event organized by the International Chiropractors Association, held in conjunction with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Arnold Classic” in Columbus, Ohio. Dynamic Essentials is a great event for chiropractors to bring the family to and the ICA Fitness Symposium is a great event for athletic minded individuals.

Around 200 seminars and continuing education events get uploaded to the calendar during the month of January. Individuals responsible for posting seminar related information are advised to complete their listings as early as possible so that potential attendees can plan accordingly.

Enjoy the 2007 holiday season and begin marking your calendars for your favorite 2008 chiropractic events, conferences, and seminars.

by Michael Dorausch, DC
In our interconnected world, the actions one takes online (after meeting someone face-to-face), can make the difference between another tossed aside business card and a potentially valuable relationship.
In October, I mentioned how I was at an event with around 130 other people in the chiropractic industry, and the secret marketing opportunities that [...]

Brochures, mailers, postcards, and faxes are increasingly coming into my chiropractic office with seminars and events taking place in the Southern California area during the first few months of 2008. There’s Dan Murphy’s nutritional neurology event taking place in Irvine in January, and I just noticed there’s going to be a interdisciplinary [...]

Recently I posted a photo from a World Posture event in Atlanta that was dated around 1973. This photo is from around the same time and it’s a clipping from a local New Jersey newspaper. The photo features two chiropractors accompanied by their wives. A placard in the photo reads Women’s Auxiliary [...]

Cell Phone Use in the Office

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

by Michael Dorausch, DC
There was an article in this past Saturday’s Seattle Post-intelligencer regarding the use of cell phones in businesses. According to the article, businesses and organizations are increasingly posting signs and asking people to stop using cell phones during transactions. They mentioned banks, coffee shops, and doctors offices, as places where cell phone [...]
