Chiropractor on a mission to deliver chiropractic video online
Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007by Michael Dorausch, DC
Google’s announcement last week that they have begun incorporating video content, photo content, and other multimedia content, into regular organic search engine results, has motivated me to open up the channels so that people like you can have access to numerous feeds of chiropractic video.
I created my first chiropractic videos back in 1996 and I remember how they used to require several hours to convert into formats that could be uploaded online. After the videos were converted and then posted to web sites (which took another hour or so) they would get viewed in tiny compressed formats such as those provided at the time by companies like Microsoft (asf and asx), RealNetworks (ra and ram), and Apple (mov QuickTime).
I remember being in school at that time and wishing there was more chiropractic content students could watch. We would sometimes get access to old VHS tapes featuring chiropractors such as Ian Grassam, Fred Barge, and Carl Cleveland II, but they were far and too few in between.
Since those days I’ve collected more than a hundred hours of video footage featuring chiropractors giving lectures, people receiving adjustments, doctors demonstrating techniques, individuals talking about philosophy, and so forth.
Just as I did back in 1996, I want to get the message out today. While it is no longer difficult create this kind of content, I’d like to make it as easy as a cut-and-paste procedure so that chiropractors worldwide could add video content to their websites at no cost, and people worldwide could learn more about what it is we do.
The videos that are accessible here may appear amateur but they demonstrate the simplicity of not only getting the information online, but of getting information delivered.
You can view chiropractic videos here…
Chiropractic Video Blogs
New plug-and-play technologies allow us to embed video content directly into webpages which can be incorporated into articles like this one. Again, these are amateur style videos but just think of the possibilities.
Here is a video filmed in my chiropractic office in Los Angeles and it’s just a simple short clip explaining some basics about bones, discs, spinal nerves, and a healthy spine.
Rest assured there’s a lot more video to come.
Chiropractic Video for your Website
Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007New tools are emerging that makes it easier than ever to add chiropractic video to your website. You don’t need to have an account at google video or youtube to be able to do this.
If you want to add videos featuring chiropractors, chiropractic adjusting, or other topics related to the chiropractic office, you can simply [...]
Planet Chiropractic News RSS Feed Updates
Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007by Michael Dorausch, DC
A picture is worth a thousand words but written content is still king. This past weekend, Planet Chiropractic updated the way we do RSS feeds so that now images and photos can be included in the syndication of our news releases.
We haven’t yet incorporated video content into the RSS feeds but that is a project that is under development at this time. For those of you that want to view chiropractic video from within your browser, you can currently visit the video blog pages at: Chiropractic Video Blogs.
How RSS Works
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and was developed to distribute web content from web sites and blogs. It was first developed in 1999 and back then RSS had several meanings depending on the use and the developer. Netscape released the first version but nowadays the RSS being used is more unified and advanced. RSS utilizes XML, or extensible Markup Language, a more advanced version of HTML that is used to create dynamic web content. Unlike HTML that is more or less readable by everyone, XML is a serious programming language that cannot be comprehended by all users. RSS readers and web browsers interpret the code and present the output to the user in a readable form. XML is used for several purposes for information transfer on the Internet.
RSS formats are specified in Extensible Markup Language aka XML (a generic specification for data formats). RSS delivers its information as an XML file typically called an “RSS feed”, “RSS File”, “RSS channel”, “RSS stream”, or “rss xml”.

Bones Spinal Nerves and Disks
Monday, May 21st, 2007This morning I found an old digital camera had lying around at my Los Angeles chiropractic office. The camera only had a 64 Mb memory card but I noticed it could capture Apple format .mov video, which I never try to use it for.
I placed the camera on a tripod in one of my adjusting [...]
Chiropractor gets Bob Gilder back on track for Regions Charity Classic
Monday, May 21st, 2007by Michael Dorausch, DC
Early Saturday morning, May 19, professional golfer Bob Gilder was thinking of withdrawing from the Regions Charity Classic due to back problems he was having. According to news articles, the 56 year old, nine time winner on the 50 and over tour, was feeling very skeptical about golfing on Saturday, having concerns about his back.
Rather than withdrawing, Gilder made the decision to visit a chiropractor that was at the course, getting much-needed chiropractic care.
That afternoon, Gilder took the second round lead in the classic tournament, shooting 6 under 66, which included making long putts for eagle and birdie on two of the final three holes. He played a great round of golf, leading after two rounds, something he has not done since winning the Constellation Energy Classic in August 2005.
Bob Gilder has won six tournaments in his PGA Tour career and he’s had nine wins on the Champions Tour.
PGA Tour wins: 1976 (1) Phoenix Open, 1980 (1) Canadian Open, 1982 (3) Byron Nelson Golf Classic, Manufacturers Hanover Westchester Classic, Bank of Boston Classic, 1983 (1) Phoenix Open
Champions Tour wins: 2001 (2) Verizon Classic, Senior Tour Championship, 2002 (4) SBC Senior Open, FleetBoston Classic, Allianz Championship, Kroger Senior Classic, 2003 (1) Emerald Coast Classic, 2005 (1) Constellation Energy Classic, 2006 (1) Constellation Energy Classic
I didn’t get the name of the chiropractor that provided care for Bob on Saturday, but I’ve been told that there is a chiropractor on nearly all professional golf circuits these days.
Planet Chiropractic would like to recognize and say thank you to sports reporters worldwide that have been bringing the news of chiropractic care for professional sports athletes to the public. As a chiropractor, I see people participating in all kinds of sports and know the importance of receiving regular chiropractic care so that athletes can maintain and maximize performance. It’s nice when the news is coming from those that are utilizing chiropractic care and talking about the benefits they have received. We know the message would not be getting out there without the assistance of reporters covering their stories.
Congratulations to Bob Gilder and thanks for telling the world about your chiropractic experience!

Dr. Maltby was presented the Association’s highest honor at ICA’s 81st Annual Meeting in Washington, DC on April 28, 2007. This award, which was created by ICA’s Founder Dr. BJ Palmer in 1950, is presented annually to one exceptional individual who has distinguished themselves throughout their career through extraordinary service to the ICA and the chiropractic profession.
“Dr. Maltby has earned this historic recognition many times over through his tireless work on behalf of the global development of chiropractic and through his efforts to defend the rights of chiropractic practitioners and patients alike,” said ICA Vice President Dr. Daniel J. Murphy. “The chiropractic profession owes a great deal to his dedication, innovative thinking, his commitment to principle and his unique effectiveness in leading the chiropractic profession in a strong and positive direction,” Dr. Murphy said. “ICA is very proud of Dr. Maltby and we all can learn and benefit from the powerful example of service he has provided over the years he has been involved with the ICA.”
Dr. Maltby serves as the President of the ICA, having been first elected in 2005. In a unique indicator of the confidence and respect of the ICA membership, he was returned to office without opposition to a second, two-year term in April, 2007. Prior to his election as ICA President, Dr. Maltby served on the Association’s Board as Western Regional Director.
A member of the ICA for more than 30 years, Dr. Maltby has been active in a host of chiropractic activities and projects including ICA’s Council on Applied Chiropractic Sciences, as a member of the faculty of ICA’s Chiropractic Certification in Spinal Trauma (CCST) program, and as Chair of ICA’s Student Affairs Committee. Dr. Maltby also serves on the current Board of Directors of the International Chiropractors Association of California (ICAC), ICA’s affiliate organization in that state, an organization in which Dr. Maltby also previously served as President and Chairman of the Board.

Introduction to Chiropractic in Spanish
Friday, May 18th, 2007A chiropractor in Orange County, California contacted me yesterday wanting to know if Planet Chiropractic still had chiropractic videos in Spanish. Back in early 2000, or sometime around there, we had a video available for sale featuring Panamanian born chiropractor Dr. Luis Ocon of Salinas, California.
Since the time I filmed the video (digitally on my [...]
Google Search Results Go Universal
Thursday, May 17th, 2007by Michael Dorausch, DC
It seems the whole Search Engine Optimization world today was talking about the changes that just took place at Google. The search behemoth said on Wednesday that it was changing its approach to Internet searches by combining results from sources such as Google News, video, maps, and other Google properties, into organic search results.
The new service began Wednesday and it is expected to gradually become more apparent to online users of Google search pages in the upcoming weeks. This new format will allow users to view video and or photographs directly within search results that traditionally would’ve only contained textual information.
Currently for some, a break in the typical search results, may offer a bit of confusion, as searchers may not be expecting to see blocks of news content appearing directly within the traditional search results. But just as users have acclimated to paid contextual advertising along the top of the page and along the right sidebar, it is expected that the news and even video content displayed will soon become second nature.
To see an example of how these new features work when incorporating news into the traditional results, I did a search for a term that it was popular today… SHREK. While the results will change dramatically over the next few weeks, you can get an idea of what the current results look like by viewing this link… Shrek+Google+Search
Democrats & Republicans
Both of these search terms should be excessively popular well into next year and I’d expect they will result in a rich combination of traditional text, images, news, videos, and maybe even map content.
You can view the results here… use this link for Republicans+Google+Search and this one for Democrats+Google+Search
Interestingly, in my test of the two terms Google delivered news for “Democrats” in position number four on the search engine results page, two positions below the democrats.org homepage. In contrast, the search for “Republicans” resulted in current news in the first position with republicans.org not showing up until position number five of search engine results.
It’s too early to say how this will affect news delivered by planetc1.com since we have long been a source for Google News content. Like Dr. Stevenson said in his 1927 text book, “there is no process that does not require time.” We’ll just wait and see.
House Committee Says Yes to Chiropractic
Thursday, May 17th, 2007by Michael Dorausch, DC
House Committee Passes Six Veterans’ Health Care Measures
The House Veterans’ Affairs Committee on Tuesday (May 15, 2007) by voice vote approved six veterans’ health care bills that would expand free care for war veterans, establish brain injury research centers and make chiropractic care more accessible, according to news reports.
One bill (HR 612), intended to provide free health care for returning troops would be expanded from two to five years. According to reports, HR 612 is geared toward veterans from the Persian Gulf War through present and future conflicts, aims to help those veterans who have health problems that appear years after they have completed military service. The committee by voice vote approved a substitute amendment to the legislation that would expand health care available retroactively to all veterans who meet the bill’s criteria, rather than only those veterans discharged after its enactment.
On traumatic brain injury research, the committee approved legislation (HR 2199) that would establish traumatic brain injury research centers and mandate a comprehensive program for providing care at Veterans Affairs health centers.
The bill (HR 1863) was approved by the committee. It would authorize mobile veterans’ centers to provide advice on disability claims processes.
The un-subluxated committee approved legislation (HR 1470) which would expand the availability of chiropractic care to 75 VA medical centers by 2009 and all VA medical centers by 2011. In addition, the committee approved legislation (HR 67) that would establish a grant program for state veterans’ outreach programs.
The House veterans affairs committee also approved legislation (HR 2239) that would expand eligibility for vocational rehabilitation to disabled troops not yet discharged from the military but who are likely to be discharged because of their condition. The committee on Tuesday also voted to refer back to subcommittee legislation (HR 2219) that would authorize $7.5 million to establish a 24-hour suicide prevention hot line, according to news reports.
The “Chiropractic Care Available to All Veterans Act” was introduced in March of 2007 by US Rep. Bob Filner, D-Calif. The bills are expected to come up on the House floor next week, when a day will be set aside by congressional leaders to focus on legislation to help veterans.
